EPM Add-in / EPM Plug-in freezes / crashes with Microsoft Office 2013 / 2016


When opening a report or input schedule after multiple reports and input schedules have been opened and closed or when you click the "View Formats" button one or more of the following behaviors can occur.

Error message "Microsoft Excel is trying to recover your information..." is generated.
Excel is running into problems with the 'epm add-in for microsoft office' add-in. If this keeps happening, disable this add-in and check for available updates. Do you want to disable it now?

Reproducing the Issue

Go to the EPM tab in Excel and log on to a BPC Connection.
Go to Open > Open Server Input Form Folder (this has only been tested with input forms at this time however it is assumed the issue can happen with Reports as well).
Open 5 or Input Schedules.
Close the 5 input schedules but do not close the Excel Book the 5 were opened from.
Open another Input schedule.
- At this point with the customers input schedules that were used to recreate the issue Excel stopped responding and the error Microsoft Excel is trying to recover your information appeared. The number of input schedules or reports that this may occur on different systems may vary.

This appears to be an issue with Microsoft Excel 2013 and 2016 related to performance or stability.


Apply the following Microsoft updates which includes specific issue updates as well as the stability and performance updates
